University Centre Hastings

The revival of Hastings & St Leonards isn't all about business and buildings.  Bringing university education to the town is a central part of the regeneration scheme, to help people increase their skills and get better jobs as well as contributing to the local economy.

The new University Centre Hastings (UCH) offers state-of-the-art facilities and high quality teaching in the centre of town to those who want to broaden their horizons - whether they want to kick-start their career, build on existing skills or study for enjoyment.

With all the time and money that goes into getting a degree, students want a good deal on their education.  UCH is unique as a centre where students can, in the comfort of their home town, study full-time or part-time courses, delivered by a range of renowned universities including University of Brighton, University of Sussex, Open University and Greenwich University.

UCH welcomed its first students in September 2003 and now offers more than 40 courses at Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, from Management Studies and Sport and Fitness to Education.

This year, students can enrol on a new course in Tourism and Enterprise Management, a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care, a BA Hons in Applied Social Sciences, a BSc in Information Technology with Management and many more.

Richard Dyer, studying for a BSc in Internet Computing, said:

"The course is challenging and you really need to think for yourself.  But it's less formal than I imagine other universities to be and you get to know the lecturers better and learn more.

"The facilities are all hi-tech and the location is great for me because I live in Hastings and it's so easy to get around.  Studying here and staying at home has also saved me money, but I still have a great student life, going out with other students to pubs and bars.  Studying for a degree is a great confidence booster.  You have to take it seriously but it's really rewarding."

UCH is running drop-in advice days throughout September to discuss courses and study options.  For more information, call 08456 020607 or visit www.uch.ac.uk
