Planning News Issue 62

Land at West Marina and the former West St Leonards Primary School Site

Last summer we commissioned Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design to produce a Masterplan, which maximises the potential of underused and vacant land in the West St Leonards area of Hastings.

The regeneration of this important and sensitive location for a mix of uses and activities has been one of our long-term objectives.

Based on detailed technical assessments and consultation with residents and interest groups a number of ideas and options have been generated.  As a result, a preferred approach has been developed proposing the creation of a new seafront destination comprising a diverse mix of leisure, recreation, employment, hotel and residential uses.

Two exhibitions were held in March, and over 500 people attended.  A smaller unstaffed exhibition is still available to view in the Information Centre, Priory Meadow, Hastings until Sunday 1 April 2007.  Please see our Planning News Issue 61 for further information about the exhibitions.

Written comments on the proposals need to be with us by 1 April.
