New Plans for Hastings Town Centre and Ore Valley

We are currently expecting some major new planning applications for the Town Centre and the Ore Valley/Broomgrove area and we will be seeking your comments in due course.

Town Centre:

Station Plaza

A new application for the redevelopment of the area next to Hastings Station between the railway line and Devonshire Road is being submitted in November.  The new proposals are significantly different to those considered previously.

The plans include new premises for Hastings College, a new building for the Primary Care Trust who provide health services in the town, and 104 residential flats.  If permission is granted it is hoped that works would start on site in July 2007.

Priory Quarter

A new outline application is being submitted for the area extending from the station forecourt and post office sorting office through to Cambridge Road.  Whereas the application for Station Plaza is fully detailed, the Priory Quarter application is in outline, and is seeking to establish the principle of the development proposed for the area.  If outline permission is granted further applications will need to be made for the approval of the detailed design before any works can take place.  The proposals include offices to create employment, education uses, together with retail and possibly a multiplex cinema.

This is a longer term proposal and if approved will take several years to implement.

Ore Valley/Broomgrove:

Parker Road/Firtree Road

A new fully detailed application for the redevelopment of the land at the corner of Parker Road and Firtree Road to provide further accommodation for Hastings College is to be submitted in November.  The college already occupies some space here, but the new facilities would enable other technical courses to relocate from their existing Quarry Road site.

Ore Valley/Broomgrove

Seaspace are submitted an outline application covering a large part of the Ore Valley/Broomgrove area which is seeking to establish the principle of future development in this area.  The area extends from the junction of Hughendon Road and Mount Pleasant Road in the south, up to the former Stills factory site off Fellows Road, and across to Frederick Road in the east.

The proposals include a new access to the area from Mount Pleasant Road, new facilities around Ore station and the provision of a considerable number of new houses and flats.

If outline permission is granted further applications will need to be made for the approval of the detailed design before any building can start.

Visit the Planning Applications page to view these applications when they are submitted.
