Hastings Ranger Service

The Borough of Hastings has over forty Council owned green spaces ranging from formal parks and gardens to large areas of urban woodland and a Country Park with some of the most spectacular landscape in the country.

Hastings Borough Council have employed a Ranger Service for over 20 years and are dedicated to raising environmental and conservation issues as well as providing a high visibility presence and maintaining high quality service.

The Ranger Service aims to conserve the wildlife and provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all in the parks and open spaces of Hastings.  The presence of the Rangers in our distinctive and familiar uniform can be a reassuring sight to visitors and provide a point of contact for all green issues and more.

We have a mobile Ranger service covering the whole Borough patrolling all council sites dealing with day-to-day reactive issues as well as emergencies.  Part of the team are site specific rangers based in the Country Park and Alexandra Park.

Rangers are experienced and qualified professionals with a wide range of skills, able to deal with almost any situation.  We have a large amount of equipment at our disposal, are well trained and have a broad knowledge of green, local and social issues.

The Hastings Borough Council Ranger team is a forward thinking, modern and proactive team that make a real difference to the quality of Parks and the enjoyment of the users.  We work with many different agencies and community groups to achieve our goals.  There is a large and active Volunteer Ranger group at the Country Park whose members assist with the management of the site whilst developing their countryside skills with training and further education.  Rangers are involved in advising and supporting community groups as well as helping to set them up.

The Rangers are involved in practical work as well as leading guided walks, giving talks, move forward improvement and development issues on Council green spaces and organising educational activities for local schools and groups.

As the people on the ground we are ideally placed to gather information or to pass it on to the public and are central to park life in all its guises.

Mission Statement

We, the Hastings Country Park Volunteer Ranger Service, aim to be ambassadors of the country park.  We will provide information, guidance, education and management for the benefit of the people visiting, working and living here.  We will protect, conserve, promote and enhance the natural environment of the park and encourage others to join us in this work, so that the value of the park and its wildlife is protected for future generations to come.
