As we enter the park, the first tree on the right is a Single-leaved Ash (Fraxinus excelsior f. diversifolia) which was planted in 1981. This tree is actually a form of our native Ash (Fraxinus excelsior), but you would not know so from the leaves. Native ash has leaves made up of 9 to 13 small leaflets on a single stalk (technically a compound leaf) but Single-leaved Ash, as its name indicates, has undivided leaves.
