Warrior Square Echelon Parking Study

Warrior Square Echelon Parking Study

We're working with East Sussex County Council and South East England Development Agency to improve the pedestrian environment along the 'Kings Road Corridor' which runs from St Leonards Warrior Square station to the seafront along Kings Road and London Road.

These improvements are designed to attract visitors and new businesses to the area and work is scheduled to begin within Kings Road in early 2009.

As a result, we need to review parking allocations in the neighbouring streets and promote the introduction of short-term parking areas to get things moving in the area and stimulate shopping and visitor activity.

At the same time, we're taking the opportunity to review parking arrangements for disabled badge holders and deal with a number of parking related problems that have been brought to our attention over the past few years.

Our Proposals for Warrior Square

We're proposing a series of one-way streets around the perimeter of Warrior Square Gardens and formalised parking within an 'echelon' style, diagonal arrangement.

A map of the proposal area is available as a .pdf download - 'Plan of the echelon parking proposal' and these are the key points highlighted:

  • The introduction of 'one hour' limited waiting bays on the eastern side of Warrior Square in close proximity to the commercial areas of Kings Road
  • The formal marking of unrestricted parking bays in 'echelon' style with an overall increase of available daytime spaces (8am - 6pm) of 10%
  • The introduction of additional disabled badge holder parking spaces on Terrace Road and around the Medical Centre/Warrior Pharmacy
  • The overall increase of available residents evening parking spaces (6pm-8am) by approximately 25%
  • The introduction of a designated crossing area between the eastern and western sides of Warrior Square Gardens
