If you have received a PCN, please do not ignore it. This section will explain what to do next.
If you feel the PCN has been issued incorrectly or you feel it was not justified, find out how to challenge the PCN, either online, by post or in person.
All PCNs should be paid or challenged within 14 days of the date of service (issue) to take advantage of the discount of 50% for prompt action.
If neither payment nor challenge has been received by the 15th day following the date of service of the PCN, the rate payable becomes the full charge due, either £70.00 or £50.00.
If neither payment nor challenge has been received within 28 days of the date of service, a formal notice will be issued to the registered keeper, or the person the council believes to be the owner of the vehicle. This notice will give details of the contravention and will request full payment or a formal representation against the charge.
If you do not understand why the penalty charge notice has been issued and would like to talk to somebody about it, please telephone the Parking Office. Parking Office staff cannot accept a telephone challenge or give you a decision over the phone but will be able to give you information and guidance about what to do next.
Please note that if your PCN has just been issued, the office staff will not have access to a computer record of it or any photographs, until the day following the issue. If you can wait until the next day, it will be much easier to discuss the facts of the case, as the officers will have the details in front of them.
