International concern for nature conservation and the health of the global environment has grown in recent years. Countries throughout the world are developing policies and agreements aimed at protecting the world's ecosystems and developing a philosophy of sustainability towards the world's natural resources.
The Borough Council already recognises it can support the protection of non-renewable resources, promote sustainable development and play a role in reducing global environmental problems through its approved Purchasing Policy. The implementation of the Nature Conservation Strategy will ensure an integrated approach to the Council's policies and commitments for the natural environment and accord with national and international agreements, legislation and protocols for international nature conservation.
