Introduction

The Housing Renewal Financial Assistance policy was updated in June 2007.  The policy outlines how we will provide financial assistance following recent changes to legislation.  The changes affect Renovation Grants, Common Parts Grants, and Home Repair Assistance.  The way we provide Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants remains largely unchanged.

We have more flexibility in devising a strategy to deal with poor condition private sector housing in the town.

Our priorities are:

  • Area based - financial assistance will be available in the Central St Leonards renewal area in accordance with the Housing Renewal Implementation Strategy.  We will direct the majority of our support to the renewal area.  We will also aim to create a mix of tenure, i.e. increase social and owner/occupation and encourage family-sized accommodation.
  • Property based - Empty Homes Assistance in accordance with our Empty Homes Strategy.
  • Client based - a package of discretionary help for disabled people and vulnerable people.
