We maintain road signs and markings. Our priority is to make sure that signs are correct and presentable and to produce new signs where they are needed.
Other Council departments, including Marketing and Seafront Services, maintain tourism signs like finger posts and information boards.

We coordinate street numbering and naming as well as changes to individual house names. In the case of new estates, names that have an historical or local connection to the location are chosen where possible. All new street names must also be approved by the Post Office.
House numbers are allocated according to developers' plans, although they are not necessarily the same as plot numbers.
To report a damaged or missing street nameplate, please fill out the damaged/missing street nameplate form. We will respond to these reports, and repair the damage as soon as possible.

We keep records of changes to house names and make sure that names are not duplicated.
Use the house name change form to make a request to change your house name.
We consult Royal Mail, which takes up to 14 days, in order to avoid duplication of house names. As part of the procedure we inform the utility companies, the Land Registry and emergency services of house name changes and new developments.
Please note that postal numbers cannot be removed from properties and must be used in conjunction with the house name.

We manage the installation, amendment and deletion of yellow lines and other parking restrictions within Hastings and St Leonards.
All requests for new or changed parking restrictions are assessed and ranked according to a set of defined criteria by our specialist traffic team. A parking restriction request can take up to six months to process. Our policy is to collect applications together and process at one time.
A decriminalised parking system operates in Hastings. This means that we undertake enforcement of most parking restrictions. All fines are paid to us and used to fund enforcement of parking restrictions and improving transport within the town.
For more details of parking enforcement, visit the Parking area.
