Gritting

Our officers are on standby during the winter months to respond to weather conditions that can present a danger on our roads.  We use innovative computerised systems to obtain a constant update on weather conditions.  This allows an agreed number of the most important roads to be pre-salted when freezing temperatures are expected.  Gritting and salting is usually done in the evening or first thing in the morning if rain is forecast before frost.

Gritting and salting lorries are dispatched from a local depot and follow a series of set routes.

The County Council coordinates salting and gritting services, please see www.eastsussexcc.gov.uk for further information.

Please visit the Met Office website for latest weather forecasts.
