Biological Surveys

An ongoing programme of wildlife surveys and biological monitoring is currently in progress throughout our Local Nature Reserves and other green spaces.  The following surveys have been completed in recent years:

Ambassadors of Landscape - A Report on Research and Survey of Bumblebees, other Bees and their conservation requirements in Hastings, East Sussex, with special reference to four Sites within the Borough, 2002.

A survey for Great Crested Newt sites in the Borough of Hastings, 2003.

Diptera (Two-wing Flies) Survey of Gill Woodlands in Hastings, 2002.

Breeding Bird Survey for Hastings Country Park, 2004.

A comprehensive programme of wildlife surveys and monitoring has been planned for Hastings Country Park in the new management plan.  If you would like to help out with these surveys, and in the process gain training on biological recording, please contact the Ranger Service.

It is planned for all the above and future surveys to be published on the Wild Hastings website by autumn 2005.

Visitor Surveys

At present these are being developed for Hastings Country Park and it is hoped that they will be undertaken periodically over the coming years.  Other survey information is gathered via questionnaires sent to the Citizen's Panel, Young Person Council and other groups as part of the Council's ongoing commitment to involve and consult with everybody that lives in Hastings.
