In March 2008, regional radio station, Southern FM, launched a campaign for 2008 called Lights Out Sussex. Residents and businesses across Sussex took part by switching their lights off for an hour one Saturday evening.
The idea was to get everyone across Sussex to think carefully about the energy they waste by keeping lights switched on. Hundreds of people took part by switching non-essential lights off in schools, offices, hospitals and homes. We took part by switching Hastings Castle lights off for the hour.
If you missed Lights Out Sussex 2008, you can still save energy. By remembering to switch lights off when you leave a room and not keeping appliances on standby, you'll not only help the environment by reducing waste, you'll also save some money too.
The Energy Saving Trust offers help and advice on saving energy around the home.
