Introduction

Meet our dedicated team for tackling 'enviro-crimes', such as dog fouling, littering, and flytipping.

The Environmental Enforcement Team is split into four small groups of three officers.  Each group is led by an Environmental Community Officer, who is assisted by two uniformed Community Officers.

The Environmental Enforcement Team for West Hastings

Each of these three-strong groups is dedicated to tackling enviro-crime in their quarter of the town.

The Environmental Enforcement Team for South Hastings

The team tackles enviro-crime such as flytipping, graffiti, littering and fly posting and also deals with irresponsible dog ownership issues such as fouling and dogs out of control.

Environmental Enforcement officers are happy to give help and advice on environmental issues, but it is primarily an enforcement service and routinely issues fixed penalty notices and its officers help prosecute offenders in the courts.

The Environmental Enforcement Team for North Hastings

The team uses a range of tactics to gather the evidence needed to take enforcement action, from high visibility patrolling to covert operations using hidden cameras.

The Environmental Enforcement Team for Central Hastings

What the Environmental Enforcement Team does

Count on the Environmental Enforcement Team to:

  • Discourage antisocial behaviour by targeted patrols and evidence gathering in relation to enviro-crime hotspots
  • Deal with dog fouling and other irresponsible dog ownership issues
  • Tackle litter
  • Reduce fly posting and fly tipping
  • Report abandoned and untaxed vehicles
  • Deal with overhanging vegetation
  • Handle licensing issues such as A-boards
  • Put you in touch with the right services or agencies to deal with your problem

The Environmental Enforcement Team works with other Council departments such as Refuse and Recycling to:

  • Investigate complaints and enforce antisocial behaviour and environmental legislation
  • Help arrange clean-ups
  • Monitor the Council's contractors

Fixed Penalty Notices

Environmental Enforcement Officers routinely issue fixed penalty notices for dog fouling, fly tipping and littering; which includes dropping cigarette butts.
