Information about Elections
Hastings Borough Council elections are held every two years for half of the Council.
East Sussex County Council Elections are held every four years and European Parliamentary Elections every five years. These elections are usually held on the first Thursday in May.
The timing of a General election varies, as the date can be selected by the Prime Minister providing it is within 5 years of the previous election.
More than one election can be held on the same day.
Police and Crime Commissioners elections
The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 allows for police authorities in England and Wales, apart from London, to be replaced with directly elected Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs). Petitions relating to a different form of governance
Number of signatures required on a petition for a referendum on whether the Borough should change to a different form of governance
The Borough Council is required, by the Local Government Act 2000, to publish the minimum number of signatures which would be needed to support a valid petition requiring the Council to hold a referendum on whether or not the Borough should change to a different form of governance.
The minimum number of signatures (equivalent to 5% of the Borough's local government electorate) is 3,216.
The above number will apply to any petition submitted to the Borough Council before 01 April 2013. However, a new number will be published in February 2013 and if the new number is less than 3,216, then the new number will apply from the date it is published.
