About the Traffic Management Committee

The Traffic Management Committee is a sub-committee of the Cabinet.  In effect, this means that the committee is an advisory panel to the Cabinet and holds no decision-making powers.

The Traffic Management Committee discusses everything relating to traffic and highways issues, in and around Hastings.  Where a traffic issue attracts a petition (of ten or more signatures), it is usual for the Chair of the Board to invite the lead petitioner to speak at the meeting.  The petitioner has up to five minutes in which to express their view.  Members of the Board may then ask questions of the petitioner.  Ward councillors may also exercise their right to speak for up to five minutes on an application affecting their ward.  Members of the Traffic Management Committee are not permitted to ask questions of the councillor.

Many of the items looked at by the Committee require Cabinet approval.  To this end, the Traffic Management Committee would look at the issue and then recommend its course of action to Cabinet.
