About the Licensing Committee

The Licensing Committee is a quasi-judicial body set up to implement the functions of the new Licensing Act 2003.  The Committee is made up of 15 elected members.  The new Licensing Act will transfer powers from the Magistrates Court to the Local Authority on licensing matters.

The full Committee is not intended to meet on a regular basis to decide upon licensing applications.  Sub-committees, made up of any 3 members of the Licensing Committee, will manage this.
