Past Consultation and Responses

Gypsy and Traveller transit site

Please note: This consultation is now closed.

Hastings Borough Council is working with Sussex Police and the area's other local authorities to create better harmony between Gypsies and Travellers and the rest of the community by proposing a designated short-stay Travellers site.  A short-stay site would address the problems which arise when, owing to a shortage of designated sites, Travellers stop in unauthorised places.

In January 2007, the Council Cabinet decided on three potential sites for further consideration, with a view to choosing one for development.

From December to early February, with support from consultants TK Associates (www.tkassociates-uk.com), we ran a communications and consultation exercise, talking to numerous community representatives and Travellers to understand people's views.  The consultation closed on Monday 5 February.  A decision about site selection will be made by the Council Cabinet in early March.
