Stade Deckchair Design competition

Deckchair competition winners announced

Over 1,000 entries were received in the Stade Education Project 'Design a Deckchair' with designs being sent from as far as Manchester – and the 20 winners have been selected.

It took the judges; Liz Gilmore, Director of the Jerwood Gallery Hastings; Councillor Trevor Webb, lead member for Leisure and David Rhodes, Curator at the De La Warr Pavilion, over three painstaking hours to assess the designs before finally choosing their favourite 20.

Cllr Trevor Webb, said:

"As I suspected, this was a very difficult competition to judge.  Not only did we have lots of entries to examine, but they were all of such a high standard that it made it quite impossible!  After hours of deliberation, we managed to whittle it down to just 20, and I'm very pleased with the winning designs; I can't wait to see what they'll look like on a deckchair!"

The winners are (in no particular order):

  • Louie Brooks-Buckingham
  • Gene Best
  • Luka Boulton
  • Ehlana Nelson
  • Betsie Field
  • Caelan Wassell
  • Deron Alorwu
  • Izaak Salmon-Brown
  • Ricardo Garcia
  • Eden Katz
  • Imogen Foster
  • Toby Perry
  • Charlie Potts
  • Helanah Raymond
  • Tracey Okines
  • Sue Barnes
  • Nathan Usmar Lauder
  • Denise Griffiths

The deckchairs will have at their first public outing at the Seafood and Wine Festival on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September.
