Introduction

On Monday, 09 June, 2008, Cabinet gave its support for a new art gallery and facilities on the Stade.

Around £9m is being invested in the site, with just over £4m coming from the Jerwood Foundation, who are fully funding the cost of building the Jerwood Gallery. The rest of the site, including the Stade Hall, Stade café, Stade open Space and highways improvements is costing just under £5m. We secured £2m from the Government's Sea Change fund towards this project, £650 000 from the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), £420 000 from East Sussex County Council and around £1.7m from our own resources.

The original target for the work to be complete was the end of June 2011.  The Stade Hall and public toilets opened in March 2011, and the Stade café ('Eat @ The Stade'), and Stade Open Space in May 2011.

The Jerwood Gallery opened on Saturday, 17 March 2012.
