Introduction
Quality, accessibility and play value
To help ensure our sites are clean and safe, inspections are currently carried out daily throughout the year. Once a year an independent expert reviews the condition and safety of every play facility.
In May 2010, Play Hastings and the Parks and Open Spaces team carried out a re-audit of our play spaces using an audit criteria model designed by ourselves. The audit model is based partly on the original used in the Parks and Opens Spaces Strategy and partly using Play England's criteria.
The audit scores are based on three key areas:
- play value
- accessibility
- maintenance
Amicus Horizon also agreed to audit their play grounds and a joint Hastings and St Leonards Play Space Strategy has now been agreed. A large number of playgrounds provided as part of new developments remain unadopted – they are open for use, but are maintained by the Developer. We elected not to audit these until adoption, but as ownership and maintenance of the sites progress, an audit will take place. The new play spaces will then be added to our ownership list. At the request of Orbit Housing we are currently in the process of auditing Orbit owned play spaces with the view that they will join the Play Strategy partnership.
Please use our online form to report an unclean or unsafe play area.
