Introduction

St Leonards Gardens have recently undergone extensive refurbishment with the help of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £1 million.  The Gardens are the centrepiece of James Burton's new town founded in 1828.  James Burton made substantial contributions to British architecture, as did his son Decimus, who also worked at St Leonards and designed a number of London parks.

The Gardens are listed Grade II in recognition of their national importance and are now re-opened to the public.  Temporary fencing is protecting the young planting and will be removed later.

Please contact Parks and Open Spaces, or e-mail stleonardsgardens@hastings.gov.uk for further information.
