Introduction and fees
Beach huts are privately owned, but a rolling licence for the site is granted by the Council. When a site becomes available it is quite often sold privately with a Beach Hut already in position and these are often advertised in the local press and at the sites themselves.
The area presently licensed by the Council starts at the Haven Barrier at the end of Cinque Ports Way and extends westwards along to the borough boundary at Glyne Gap.
This area is roughly divided into three sections. Licence fees from 01 January to 31 December 2012 are as follows and include VAT. Fees are calculated on 5% base increase.
Fees
- Combe Haven East Hut Site: £475.84
- Combe Haven West Hut Site: £475.84 (front row)
- Combe Haven West Hut Site: £397.21 (middle/back rows)
- Glyne Gap East Hut Site: £357.90
- Glyne Gap West Hut Site: £319.48
Hastings Borough Council does own and rent concrete built beach chalets; these are situated at the Marina in front of the Royal Victoria Hotel and also wooden chalets at West Marina on the former Bathing Pool site. All of the concrete chalets are equipped with running water and electric supply. Rental prices including VAT at 20% are as follows:
- Marina/Solarium chalet: £1330.07
- West Marina chalet: £917.54
Fees are calculated on 7.5% base increase.
The licence fees and rentals quoted are for a full twelve months running from the 01 January each year. A reduced pro rata amount may be negotiated based on the time of year that the Hut/Chalet licence is granted.
Administration fee
Sales/transfers, which involve a change of licence: £120.00 (inc VAT)
West Marina Chalets: 61 to 70 (front row)
The site of these chalets is not purpose built like the adjacent site at West Marina and as a result is not as accessible or private. There is a fairly steep bank leading to the site, the ground is uneven in areas and can also be covered by shingle at certain times of year. A private forecourt is not provided and there is public access to both the site and beach. The 60 chalets and toilets at West Marina may be more suitable if people have limited mobility.
