Technical Officer/Environmental Health Officer

Ref: 607
Salary: £17,373 to £33,858
Full Time

Career graded 9-4

Positions: 3 career graded posts dependant on qualifications and experience (Technical Assistant/Technical Officer/Environmental Health Officer/Senior Environmental Health Officer).

Hastings is an ambitious, progressive and interventionist Council, and environmental health is an essential and valued service at the core of our public protection and community safety work.

We're changing the way we deliver our environmental health services by combining them into a single generic environmental health team (except for private sector housing).  This will help us to provide a more effective and flexible service for residents and businesses, as well as a more rewarding range of work for everyone in our team.

We need 3 new field officers to complete our experienced and friendly team.  Whether you're relatively new to this work, or an experienced environmental health practitioner, our new generic approach will appeal to applicants seeking an opportunity for excellent experience of wide ranging environmental health issues.

We have excellent multi-agency arrangements, including an innovative weekly community safety hub to agree rapid collaborative approaches to addressing serious environmental health and community safety cases.

We're looking for excellent communicators, who are happy to embrace a more generic approach to delivering environmental health services in our historic seaside town.

A full driving licence is essential for all posts which attracts a separate benefit allowance of £1,797, as is a willingness to work outside of normal office hours from time to time.

There's also the added opportunity to participate in our emergency environmental health out of hours on call service, which attracts a generous standby payment of £8,004 per annum.

In addition to support with training and personal development, we operate flexible approaches to working including a mixture of hot desking and homeworking for environmental health personnel with laptops and smart phones issued as standard.

For an informal discussion or for further information please contact Ian Wheeler, Environmental Health Manager on 01424 783230.
