Leaders Introduction

Peter Pragnell - leader of the Council

Welcome back to this packed autumn edition of the About magazine.  As we went to print we were bang in the middle of the Coastal Currents arts festival, taking place across Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill.  The festival is now in its tenth year and going from strength to strength.

For this edition we have given over a section of the magazine to St Leonards. There is so much going on in this part of town at the moment, that it seemed right to turn over our centre pages to it.  The improvements to Kings Road have finished but there’s more going on in this part of town than just the surface work.

We talk to people who live and work in the area, hear about their hopes and ambitions for St Leonards and discover how this unique part of town has changed over the years.

It’s been a real partnership effort, not only involving large organisations such as East Sussex County Council and the South East England Development Agency but also those right in the heart of community from our own officers to residents and the Gensing and Central St Leonards Forum too; partners whose help has been invaluable.

Elsewhere, we’re looking at a very exciting opportunity in the world of play with a brand new adventure playground set for the Ore Valley and improvements to the White Rock skate park.

We bring you an update on the work going on to the East Hill Lift and the latest initiatives we’ve put in place to beat the scourge of animal attacks on black bin bags.

The next edition of About comes out in December and in it we will be printing our end of year finances, and of course the arrangements for the Christmas and New Year rubbish and recycling arrangements.

I hope you enjoy the magazine and see you next time!

Leader of Hastings Borough Council
