Hello. Welcome to our September edition of About. We've had a great summer here in Hastings and St Leonards and while the weather has been unpredictable, to say the least, our events have been as successful as ever.
The carnival drew the crowds with its usual mix of madness, mayhem and the brilliant fireworks on the beach.
Visitors also flocked to the St Leonards Festival, which has really found a place in the hearts of residents.
At the time of writing this I am looking forward to the third Seafood and Wine Festival taking place on the Stade. I can't promise the rain will hold off, but I can promise some fantastic products to taste and buy from our local food and drink producers. If the festival is as well attended as in previous years, I'll be delighted.
In this edition we've adopted an environment and community theme and you can find out what we're doing to improve your neighbourhood. Read up about our newly launched Environment Officers and spot yourself in photos from recent festivals and the opening of St Leonards Gardens earlier in the year.
There are tips on how to keep your recycling up and costs down in the current financial climate too.
I do hope you enjoy this current edition of About and if you have any comments, please do send them to marketingadmin@hastings.gov.uk.
We are also still reflecting on the tragic death of Mohammed al-Majed.
The next edition will be out in December when we will have our end of year accounts and details of your rubbish and recycling collection times over Christmas and the New Year.
Councillor Peter Pragnell
Leader of Hastings Borough Council
