Special launch day at the White Rock Hotel

Hastings Intercultural Organisation logo Hastings Intercultural Organisation (HIO) was officially launched in March at a jam-packed White Rock Hotel.

HIO chair, Owen Thompson, told a diverse audience - which included Mayor Maureen Charlesworth and MP Michael Foster - how, for the first time in Hastings, an organisation had been created to help the community take charge of its own affairs.  Owen explained:

"HIO intends to promote a sense of togetherness and empowerment among people of all races, cultures and faiths where local people are no longer simply 'done to', but influence and inform decisions made on their behalf."

Owen continued:

"The formal coming together for the launch of HIO marked an important step for joint working between the statutory, voluntary and community sectors.  It also demonstrated the spirit of togetherness between the various communities.  Every member of our community, from whatever background, is invited to a meeting taking in the Town Hall Council Chamber on Thursday, 14 June.  Please do come along, share and participate in this dynamic community initiative."
