Latest Election News

At the Annual Council meeting on Wednesday, 16 May councillors voted to decide the new mayor, deputy mayor, leader and deputy leader of the Council and to appoint councillors to sit on the various committees.

Cllr Maureen Charlesworth will remain as mayor for another term, and Cllr Vivienne Bond will replace Cllr Eve Martin as her deputy.

Cllr Peter Pragnell was elected leader of the Council, with Cllr Matthew Beaver as deputy leader. Councillors also voted on the make-up of the Cabinet.  The new balance will be five Conservatives, four Labour and one Liberal Democrat.

The meeting followed the two by-elections at the beginning of May for the Gensing and Silverhill wards.
