Unique coastal architecture, both home and abroad, was celebrated in a cross Channel competition. The Coastal Treasures photography competition attracted entrants from England and France whose remit it was to capture their favourite pieces of architecture by the sea.
A panel of judges then set about the task of narrowing down the field to 40 finalists. The work was put on display, locally here in Hastings and in Hardelot Sur Mer, whose tourist office helped organise the contest with help from Hastings Borough Council, Rother District Council and regeneration company Sea Space. Funding came from the European Commission.
Cllr Maureen Charlesworth, who attended the Coastal Treasures launch, said:
"There were some beautiful examples of both French and English buildings photographed for the competition and the quality of the entries was very high. It's great that the entrants, who went to so much trouble to get the right shot, then got to see their work on display in a gallery".
Overall winner was Rene Sczcepaniak, from France, with his picture 'Des Oiseaux et des Hommes' (Of Birds and Men). Rene won £730 worth of vouchers for photographic equipment.

In second place was Hastings' own James Rose with his photo 'Who is the Fairest of Them All?'. James won a two-night stay for two in Baie de Somme in France with free access to a number of attractions.
