Xtrax Hurry Hunt

Early in September organisations Xtrax, Pulse and Active Hastings held the first ever Hastings Hurry Hunt.  Teams of young people were assigned places to visit all over town, with various activities to complete along the way.

The day began in the town centre with some words of encouragement from the Mayor, they were all given their backpacks and lunches and sent on their way.

The aim of the day was to get young people active and exploring their local area. The five teams went to up to 16 destinations over the six hours, taking on average 14,000 steps each.

Local companies such as Jessops, Simply Italian, Real Sports, Marks and Spencer, Wisdens Sports, Famous Moes, supported the event with free prizes and Stagecoach provided every entrant with a free bus pass for the day.

The day ended at the White Rock Hotel, with a prize giving by athlete Sean Baldock.  The top prize of a Limo ride and meal vouchers went to the fastest team, but everyone was awarded something.  Xtrax first came up with the idea after working with young people who said they were bored and there was nothing to do in Hastings.  Xtrax prides itself on keeping the young people entertained within the centre, keeping them off the streets and in a safe environment.  The Hurry Hunt was an opportunity to get young people out and about, with plenty of things to do and places to be.

Everyone involved had a really fantastic day.  The atmosphere at the prize giving was brilliant.  All who took part said they had visited places they would not normally have been to, and above all they didn't quit.

Xtrax young people's centre is a town centre based charity and has been dedicated to supporting and empowering hard to reach and excluded young people aged 16-25 in Hastings for over 12 years.  Xtrax offers a safe, friendly environment and is open between 3pm and 10pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday and even on Christmas Day.

Xtrax offers free use of washing machines, showers, free condoms, chlamydia screening and pregnancy testing.  Xtrax also provides confidential advice on sexual and mental health matters and serves around 4,000 healthy affordable meals every year.  If you would like to become a volunteer or make a donation to Xtrax please call Andrew Batsford on 01424 722524.
