Surestart - A Great Start

Surestart logo SureStart is the Government's programme to support children and families.

Its overall aim is to provide the best possible start in life for all children.  It plays an important part in the Government's ambitious efforts to halve child poverty by 2010.  Sure Start Children's Centres are about bringing services together for families with children aged 0-5 years old, as well as ensuring partnership working between professionals.

Children's Centres will offer a range of services, dependant upon local need, including:

  • Childcare, integrated with early education
  • Family support and parental outreach
  • Child and family health services
  • Training and links to JobCentre Plus
  • Information and advice
  • A base for local childminders

The services available to children and their families are wide ranging and can include the following: full day care; crèches; family support groups and drop ins; counselling; ante-natal and post-natal advice and support; home visiting; adult education and training; Health Visitor clinics; speech and language drop ins; housing and benefits information and advice.
In Hastings and St Leonards, there are three Children's Centres in Hastings town centre, Ore Valley and Hollington.

Each children's centre provides a range of services including childcare, advice facilities and space for Sure Start home visitors and workers.
The Robsack Children's Centre in the Hollington area of St Leonards is split over three sites.
