Dogs in the Park
Walking through Alexandra Park you're sure to encounter at least two or three canine ramblers enjoying the space so we know that our parks are popular with your pets. But we thought we'd ask the people who use the park about dogs to see if there are any things that need changing and if there's anything we can do to help.
Here's a summary of the results:
- Out of the 114 people surveyed, only 7 were from outside Hastings and most used the park regularly alongside the West Hill, beach, St Helen's Woods and the Country Park.
- 65% of people thought there were enough
dog bins in the park but some thought that particular areas needed more. Our rangers will look into the suggestions and try to find possible solutions.
- 54% of people let friends or family walk their dogs for them. But remember the dog is the responsibility of the walker, so make sure you clear up after them.
- 85% of people allow their dogs to walk 'off the lead' and 86% of dogs were in sight during these times.
- 97 people out of the 114 questioned fulfilled their responsibility to make sure their dogs were identifiable with name tag and collar and 54 dogs had identity chips.
- 42% of those surveyed agreed with the byelaw requiring dogs to be on leads in the lower end of the park, between Bethune Way and Dordrecht Way.
- Only two people didn't have dog bags with them. Rangers reminded dog owners that they can get free dog bags from them.
- Most walkers also wanted dog bins to be emptied more regularly and rangers informed them of the telephone number to call to report a problem.
