Fancy lifting 1,333 tonnes? That's 133 double-deckers worth. Can't do it. Together we can. We must.
One project worker covering the Hastings and Bexhill areas for the Hastings Sustainable Business Partnership has identified potential savings of 1,333 tonnes of Co2 emissions being released into our atmosphere this year. He has done all this through advising local businesses on wiser use of electricity and fuel.
Okay. So you can't shift 1,333 tonnes on your own. How about 111 tonnes?
This is the amount of waste this project worker expects to have diverted from landfill sites this year! That's another 11 buses!
It's amazing. In money terms, this Hastings Sustainable Business Partnership project has already potentially saved local business over £150,000 on fuel and electricity. It is likely to have generated further savings of £35,550 following advice taken in smarter use of raw materials, water and solvents, plus another £21,000 of savings through reduced waste disposal and landfill costs.
Not bad for one project worker, £10,000 of Area Investment Framework money, plus £8,000 from Hastings Borough Council, £2,000 from Rother District Council and £30,000 from Envirowise.
The Hastings Sustainable Business Partnership has been working with businesses in Hastings and Bexhill to provide free intensive support to incorporate environmental savings in their daily business. It has been letting businesses know about how to get free waste and energy audits. It has been giving advice on how to get interest free loans for energy efficient plant and has explained the tax incentives to businesses.
The project attracted over 40 businesses to one of its seminars this year. It is currently working actively with 14 businesses, carrying out environmental management systems to identify environmental improvements to continue into the future, advising on grants and giving sustainability advice.

Businesses here are serious about giving the planet a lift and saving their money. Is your business doing its bit?
