JMW Turner’s great, great niece was on hand to unveil his masterpiece in the Old Town Hall Museum recently.
The watercolour, entitled Hastings: Fish Market on the Sands, Early Morning was won by our museums at auction in June. The Art Fund and The Heritage Lottery Fund joined local donors including Hastings Borough Council, the Magdalen & Lasher Charity and the Museums Association to fund the bid. For the time being, while Hastings Museum and Art Gallery on Bohemia Road is being refurbished the painting will be on display in the Old Town Hall Museum.
