Ex-choir members got together for a harmonious reunion after spotting a letter in About magazine.
Six former members of the Hastings Girls Choir met for a coffee and a catch-up in May after Betty Muffitt read a letter from singing friend Aileen in the winter 2005 edition.
Aileen, who now lives in Spalding, Leicester, had written in with a plea for other former members to get in contact.
Mrs Muffitt, hadn’t seen Aileen for more than 50 years and the pair met in town before catching up with their other friends.
She said:
"We decided to meet in town and both told each other what our hair looked like. I sort of recognised her. It had been such a long time and we were only teenagers when we last met."
The choir toured Germany, played at the Royal Festival Hall and sang at the Royal Command Performance in the coronation year, 1953.
On top of all this they even cut a record with singer Steve Conway and appeared on various radio programmes.
Their style ranged from ballads to numbers from the musical shows of the day.
Those ex-members still based in Hastings meet regularly and have even sung together at the 80th birthday party of the widow of their former choirmaster, Mr A Edmund Niblett.
Mrs Muffitt is still a keen singer and now performs with Opera South East. The group is performing Arias for Africa in September.
She is keen to organise another reunion for next summer in Hastings. If you are an ex-choir member or know anyone who was, please get in contact with Mrs Muffitt on 01424 434492.
