A shining example of Old Town architecture

One of the Old Town’s most historic and striking buildings has been lit up with a new decorative lighting scheme.

The new lights on The Old Town Hall Museum were officially switched on recently by Councillor Peter Finch. The scheme was specially designed to highlight the dramatic arches of the 19th Century building with funding from the European Union’s Interreg project.

The museum building, as it is now, was built in 1823 and was the centre of the town’s government until 1881, when the Town Hall moved to its current Town Centre site. It had a number of uses, before becoming a local history museum in 1949.

The new lighting scheme was installed as part of the Coastal Treasures project, which aims to highlight and enhance coastal architecture in Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill. The Coastal Treasures project is also giving keen snappers the chance to win a £730 voucher to spend on photographic equipment by capturing local architecture on film. Simply take a picture of your favourite example of architecture in Hastings & St Leonards or Bexhill and send it with an entry form to Hastings Information Centre, Queens Square, Hastings, TN34 1TL.

The closing date for entries is 22 September. For more information and an entry form please visit www.coastaltreasures.eu
