Where there’s a Warden, there’s a way

There’s a dedicated team keeping our town safe and clean, acting as the eyes and ears of the community. Our Warden Service has been around in one form or another since 2001, and since then they’ve grown into a visible presence that you can trust to be there when you need them. But how much do you really know about your Wardens and what they can do for you?

Wardens maintain a visible presence, report suspicious incidents and environmental issues to the appropriate organisation, and offer advice to all members of the community.

Count on your Wardens to:

  • Discourage antisocial behaviour by targeted patrolling and evidence gathering
  • Deal with stray and dangerous dogs and dog fouling
  • Tackle litter
  • Reduce fly posting and fly tipping
  • Report abandoned and untaxed vehicles
  • Deal with overhanging vegetation
  • Handle licensing issues such as street trading, a-boards and peddlars
  • Put you in touch with the right services or agencies to deal with your problem
  • Reassure vulnerable members of our community and deter criminals with high visibility patrolling in crime hotspots
  • Support crime reduction initiatives

Wardens work with other Council services to:

  • Investigate complaints and enforce antisocial behaviour and environmental legislation
  • Help arrange clean-ups
  • Monitor the Council’s contractors

The Wardens wear striking orange and green uniforms making them easy to distinguish from the police and other emergency services. They have all been issued with state-of-the-art equipment so that they can deal with incidents quickly and efficiently.

Our Wardens can issue fixed penalty notices for dog fouling, fly tipping and littering. This is an important weapon in their fight to keep our town clean for everyone.
