Freedom to get Fit

Leisure centres looking good

Falaise and Summerfields leisure centres are sporting new looks thanks to recent refits.  Plans to revamp facilities in Hastings began in November last year when Freedom Leisure took over our leisure contract.  At Falaise state-of-the-art equipment has been installed, including latest treadmills with in-built TV and other cardio equipment including cross trainers and rowing machines.  The sports centre opened ahead of schedule in December and official ribbon cutting duties were performed by the leader of the Council and managing director Jeff Hart of Freedom Leisure.

Part of the refurbishment includes a Freedom café selling Costa coffee and snacks, an ideal spot for relaxing after a work out.  The changing rooms at Falaise are next on the list for improvement with work currently underway.

Councillor Jay Kramer, portfolio holder for Leisure said:

"The refurbishment work at Falaise and Summerfields has made a big difference.  It is good to see our leisure facilities looking refreshed and renewed.  I hope that residents will be inspired to get active and put them to good use."

The Falaise investment is part of a bigger scheme of improvements for the Council's leisure facilties.

Summerfields Re-launched

The latest Hastings leisure facility to get a makeover re-opened in February.  Freedom Leisure brought the centre right up to date with a refurbished sports hall, improvements to the pool and a brand new café area.

Interior of the GymAn official opening took place in late February with Council leader Jeremy Birch, deputy leader Jay Kramer, representatives from Freedom Leisure and the Hastings and St Leonards Primary Care Trust.

Councillor Kramer said:

"I am really pleased to see the much improved leisure centre up and running.  We are working closely with Freedom Leisure to provide good quality, well used sports and leisure facilities to Hastings and I'm sure this refurbishment will attract even more people towards a healthier lifestyle."

After the launch, Freedom Leisure staff and councillors met with the users forum.
