In the latest phase in the regeneration of our town, part II of the Creative Media Centre is now open. Back in September the hi-tech building in Robertson Street was officially opened by Hastings Mayor, Councillor Pam Brown. Local businesses, the regeneration team and partners also supported the opening event. As well as local designers, film makers, web developers and publishers.
This second part of the building at 45 Robertson Street has office space for up to 40 businesses. The new facility joins the first part of the Creative Media Centre, which opened in the building opposite in March 2004, with space for up to 23 companies. It is hoped the opening of this second site will significantly boost the thriving creative business community in the heart of the town.
As part of the work on the centre, a public walkway has been added between Robertson Street and Cambridge Road. Architects showed a creative use of materials in constructing the centre; using materials such as local sweet chestnut saplings, lamb’s wool insulation and worktops made from recycled yoghurt cartons.
Council leader Jeremy Birch said: “The Creative Media Centre will make a real difference to Hastings. It makes a visible difference to Robertson Street and the town centre because of its high quality design and visual impact. It will make an economic difference providing additional space for new growing companies in the creative industries”.
The modern building is a functional and inspiring addition to Robertson Street. The perfect setting for creative and successful business.

Works to improve and expand the Marina Pavilion are well underway and the future is looking bright. The building has been closed since 2003 in need of some attention. Since then plans have been carefully developed to restore and extend the popular seafront venue.
The makeover will include a beach café, a restaurant on the upper level, and modern conference facilities. It will have a coloured glass front making it a unique landmark. The renovated and extended Pavilion will stand out as a creative and inspiring design, providing useful facilities for both residents and visitors alike.
Council leader Jeremy Birch said: “The Council fully supports the plans to improve the Marina. Once complete, the Marina Pavilion promises to be a wonderful attraction on St Leonards seafront. It will be a high quality, year-round seafront business and leisure venue”.
The Marina project is a local affair. Artists from the area Caroline Le Breton and Jonathan Cole have been involved, with their artwork being incorporated in to the design by local architect Neil Choudhury. Contractors Westridge and engineers from the local area have also been employed on the project.
Richard Beeching, Project Manager said: “We are pleased that this building, which has previously been used and appreciated by local people can be brought back in to use. We believe this will lead to further investment in the area, and boost the local economy”.
Work began at the site in October and is expected to be finished by summer 2006.
