Everyone is looking at Hastings differently these days. The national press are taking notice of us and at last giving us some positive headlines. New people are moving to Hastings, to work often from home or to set up their own business. And I find local people are feeling different nowadays too - finally they can see the town beginning to change and improve.
This edition of About comments on a survey that placed Hastings near the top of the league for towns that are most attractive to first-time home-buyers. The reasons given were - prices that are still relatively low but rising quickly giving a good return on investment and regeneration that is visibly reviving the town.
But as townspeople we know there is even more that makes Hastings a great place to live and this edition of About can only provide a glimpse of it all.
This Summer the carnival was bigger, its route longer and the enjoyment greater. The borough's Summer play and sports activities attracted children and young people in their hundreds. The first Greenfair gave residents a fun day out in Alexandra Park with a message about protecting and preserving the environment in all we do. While the Coastal Currents arts festival has brought street art to the town centre ranging from the spurting man to a scratch orchestra comprising pots, pans, whistles, tearing paper etc.
Other towns in the south east are increasingly jealous of what we are achieving, and so they should be. We have such a wealth of local talent and activity and we have the largest physical regeneration programme of any town of our size in the country. Hastings is really going places and as always About will be there to chart the course.
