Girls Getting Hawaiian

Girls getting Hawaiian graphic

It's no surprise the summer has flown by, with all the events and activities going on all over Hastings.  The weather has at times let us down but there has been plenty happening to keep spirits high.

Hastings beach was turned into an exotic Hawaiian beach party on Tuesday, August 23 as part of the Girls Getting Active scheme.  The group came together every week to take part in all sorts of activities to stay fit and healthy including volleyball, bouncy castle basketball, limbo dancing, hair and make up, tug of war and more.

A spokesperson from the Hastings and St Leonards Primary Care Trust, said:

"This is a great example of partnership working to develop an exciting project."

The summer kicked off with the Sussex Youth Games 2005 back in July, when hundreds of sporty youngsters from around Sussex descended on the Eastbourne sports park for a day of competition. Teams from Hastings competed in football, cricket, rugby, netball, hockey, basketball, table tennis, Boccia (disability bowls) and athletics.  Our teams notched up an impressive score sheet, winning the Boccia, netball and boy's rugby as well as the Spirit of the Games award for boy's basketball.  The event was organised with Hastings Schools Partnership.

Over the summer there have been two great new additions to our sports development team.  Olympic athlete Sean Baldock and international chess player Thomas Rendle, acting as Sporting Ambassadors.  Other great events included street sports and Fishing 4U.

Passport to Leisure were also in the summer spirit, offering all junior swimmers in Hastings and St Leonards the chance to swim for free throughout the holidays.  All in all it's been another great summer for Hastings.  Many thanks to our funding partners.
