Fed up with still life? Think your art classes could do with a bit of livening up? We’ve got good news. Eight Hastings schools have so far signed up to the Creative Partnerships programme, joining many other schools across the South East. The idea behind Creative Partnerships is simple - to liven up the national curriculum (the sciences as well as the arts) and to enhance school life by making best use of the UK’s creative assets. The programme is a Government initiative led by the Arts Council England. It will run until March 2008 and has a pot of cash, ranging between £2m and £3m, to spend.
It is already well underway in other parts of the country and proving a great success. It works by first helping schools identify their individual needs, then helping develop relationships with other organisations who share the same vision. Schools can end up working with a huge range of partners including architects, theatre companies, museums, orchestras, film makers and of course, local artists.
Despite the popularity of the Creative Partnerships programme it is still in the early stages and its organisers expect it to grow and grow as time goes on.
The following schools have been chosen to take part:
Eight Creative Agents are working with staff, pupils and parents over the summer term to plan individual school programmes, while talking to outside organisations, which might be interested in forming partnerships with the schools.
