Gas and electricity provider Powergen is searching the depths of East Sussex for the longest married couple.
The company promises a party to remember for the couple and their friends, if they turn out to be the holders of the title.
Rich Firmin, advisor for the Staywarm service, said:
"Powergen Staywarm marks its fifth anniversary this year and we’ve been privileged to meet many couples over those years, at our talks to over 60s groups, who are celebrating their 50th or 60th wedding anniversaries. We’re looking for the longest lasting marriage in Great Britain and would like any married couple from East Sussex who thinks the title might be theirs to contact us."
According to Guinness World Records, the world’s oldest married couple were a Thomas and Elizabeth Morgan from South Wales, who were married an incredible 81 years. Mrs Morgan died in 1891, aged 105 and Mr Morgan died two years later at the ripe old age of 106.
Powergen offers a fixed-price energy service for the over-60s. To submit a nomination for the title of longest married couple telephone 0800 1 694 694.
