Six new Projects get Go Ahead
The six latest projects to get Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) funding have just been announced. They include two business development projects, one building conservation project, two feasibility studies and another to extend a furniture recycling project.
The SRB has just two years left in its ten-year, £26M programme. The final amounts of the Budget’s money have now been pledged to seven projects, these being:
- A building conservation project led by the Council to subsidise the repair of historic buildings in Central St Leonards. This project will encourage good repair work, as well as protect the historic nature of the town
- To fund the expansion of an existing furniture reuse/recycling project. See left for Recycled Furniture article.
- Funding for two feasibility studies. One to investigate the viability of a new neighbourhood café, which is to run as a social enterprise. The other study will look into the current state of the Hastings and St Leonards Credit Union and assess the benefit of it forming a county-wide organisation
- The Business Broker project encouraging businesses to link with schools and community groups and run by 1066 Enterprise, will now be able to run for a further year.
- The local fishing industry wins too. The fishmarket will get a much wanted new cold storage facility.
The SRB was introduced back in 1996 and has given almost £20M to Hastings and St Leonards projects so far! And that £20M pulled into the town a further £100M of matched funding.
