Unsung Heroes

If you thought elections were just about counting a bunch of ballot papers, think again.  The build up to election night begins months in advance - there are polling stations to organise, count staff to recruit, ballot and postal vote slips from specialist security printers to order and then of course the night itself.

This May Horntye Sports Centre was once again used for the County and Parliamentary count and the Council’s elections team worked hard behind the scenes to ensure matters ran smoothly.

Headed up by Scrutiny and Democratic Services Manager Graham and his seven-strong team and his dedicated staff.

The May elections were Graham’s first for Hastings Borough Council.  He said:

"The biggest challenge for us this year was probably the amount of postal votes.  It’s hard work but I enjoy the whole occasion and problem solving.  It went well and I am very proud of the whole team."
