Festival Flavour

If Glastonbury is a bit on the muddy side then try a festival a bit closer to home and with far less dirt.

The event kicks off on Saturday with a kids jamboree between 10am and 1pm.  Children and their parents are invited to have a go at juggling, art, singing, dancing, storytelling, puppetry and film making in these free workshops, courtesy of Andy Bosco, Ben Fairlight, Gizmo DIY Theatre Co and the Community Circus.

St Mary in the Castle frontage St Mary-in-the-Castle plays host for a festival weekend on September 10 and 11, with two days of entertainment for the whole family.

A tour of the auditorium takes place at 1.30pm.

Fans of Edward Lear’s work have a treat in store at 3pm, when How Pleasant to Know Mr Lear is shown.  The Owl and the Pussycat and other Lear lyrics are set to music with a mini-documentary on Lear’s life and times.  Barn dance the night away with the much admired Spinning Jenny band on Saturday night, complete with a licensed bar.  Sunday opens with a jazz breakfast, thanks to the Hastings Area Youth Orchestra between 11am and 1pm.  A tour of the auditorium starts at 1.30pm.

The weekend finishes with a musical spectacular featuring the Yamaha Music School and Acromax, starting at 4pm.

Tickets cost £5 for each event or buy a £10 festival pass in advance to cover all entry to events.  The weekend is organised by the St Maryin- the-Castle Friends and tickets are available from their offices at Unit 9 St Andrews Mews, Waldegrave Steet, Hastings or from the Hastings Information Centre, Priory Meadow.
