Have you ever heard of the Hastings Young Persons Council? It could be that you’ve heard of the ‘Youth Council’ or the ‘Young Persons Council’, it could be that you’ve never heard of us at all. Well, we’re sometimes known by all of these names and probably more, but we are only here for ONE thing and that’s to make sure that those in power listen to young people in Hastings and St Leonards.
At the moment we are a group of around 22 people between the ages of 13 and 25 and we regularly get to meet local councillors, politicians and other decision makers to let them know what we think of their plans and to give them our ideas. With nearly 25,000 young people living in Hastings and St Leonards we don’t think it should just be us speaking for everyone else. The Hastings Young Persons Council wants to get in touch with many more of you so that together our voice is stronger and louder than ever before.
It may be that you wouldn’t change a thing or it could be that you have an idea that could radically alter the town, like building an airport. Perhaps you just want to see the ice-rink back in action or see more jobs for young people. Whatever your idea, however crazy or far-fetched it may seem, the first step is to tell someone about it. By joining the Hastings Young Persons Council, you’ll get to speak to the people that matter, the people that could help you to make Hastings the place you want it to be.
While we always welcome those of you who want to become youth councillors, the good news is that from this year, you don’t need to become a member of the Hastings Young Persons Council to get your voice heard.
We would like as many young people to join our database as possible, so that we can contact you from time to time and ask you what you think, invite you to meetings and generally let you know what is being said and the decisions that are being made. Please download, print and fill in the simple form below and send to the address (included on the form).
You may find it useful to read our Help before downloading information.
We’ll pick three names out of the hat on August 1 and if you’re one of them, you’ll receive a £10 gift voucher. Hastings Young Persons Council is a partnership project between Hastings Borough Council and the Youth Development Service.
