Saturday, June 4 brought high drama to the Stade in the Old Town, as emergency services dealt with a suspected toxic chemical leakage; two chip pan fires; various serious public order offences, one requiring the use of a police dog; cutting people free from cars; and the winching of a person from a boat.
In addition, the police helicopter, the coastguard helicopter, the coastguard spotter plane, the offshore lifeboat and the inshore lifeboat all saw service, as did the British Transport Police’s mobile custody suite and the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s and Sussex Ambulance Service’s major incident command centres.
Fortunately, no-one was hurt, or arrested, as the emergency services came together in a special demonstration day.

Several thousand people (residents and visitors to the town) enjoyed the event, which took place in the Stade Coach and Car Parks, and in and around the lifeboat house. As well as the demonstrations in the arena, a large number of stalls and displays were on show. These were staffed by the various services and association organisations. Although co-ordinated by Hastings Borough Council the day was very much the work of the various participants. Many are volunteers, of course, and all happily give up their time not just to help stage events like this, but to provide assistance 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. We thank them all.
