Leaders Introduction

Jeremy Birch - leader of the Council

The Council has now approved its plans and priorities for the next 12 months and of course the budget to pay for them.  Over 1,000 local residents filled in citizens’ panel questionnaires and 260 people came along to a whole series of consultation meetings.  All this allowed the people of the town to have a real say in what their Council is going to do.  It amounted to the largest consultation exercise yet by the Council in its performance planning and budget-setting process.

The key themes for the Council’s activities for the coming year received public approval and they are to make Hastings clean, green, safe and active and to be at the heart of regeneration.

This current edition of About is able to keep you up-to-date with all these themes.

Our Sport4U team is offering active and worthwhile things to occupy young people.  How much greener can you get than creating the Pebsham Countryside Park partly out of the current landfill site? There are updates too on St Leonards Gardens and our open spaces audit.  From this spring the Council will be collecting four recyclables – paper, plastic, cans and cardboard - from every front door.

There are features inside on the work of the street wardens helping to keep the town safe and of Tressell Training helping needy young people acquire the confidence and skills to be able to benefit from the regeneration of Hastings.

I hope in each edition, About can up date everyone on the progress on the Council’s key themes that will transform the quality of life in our town.
