About Hastings

Third in our archive series is this photograph from Hastings Museum & Art Gallery.

Historic photograph of people gathered round a miniature railway

There was no caption written on this particular snap, so once again we’re relying on your memories to let us know just what was happening on this day.

Maybe you were one of the youngsters taking a ride on the train, or one of the on-lookers hoping to get a turn.

Can you help us shed some light on this event, which looks like it attracted half the town.

Sea Voices: Contemporary British Painting Part Two

Abstract painting by Clyde HopkinsThe popular Sea Voices exhibition continues at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, John’s Place, with work from another five inspiring artists.

Anne Batty, Jeb Haward, Clyde Hopkins, Chris Milton and Nick Snelling all live in Hastings.  The exhibition is linked very specifically to geographical location, but is designed to explore broader issues, such as how an artist’s habitat impacts on their creativity.

Hastings is very fortunate to have a great number of professional artists and a lively arts community.  Sea Voices features a sample group of British painters who just happen to live in Hastings, but it is with some pride that HMAG presents the work of ten artists from our hometown.  The exhibition continues until May 8th.
